Applying for Government and UN Jobs in Nigeria
Where to find official vacancies, how to check eligibility and why no intermediary can guarantee a place.

Government recruitment is not one single form. A teaching hospital, university, ministry or agency may publish its own notice and use a different portal or submission method. Start with the institution's website. The Federal Character Commission's listings are a discovery point, but read the employer's full advert for the title, grade, requirements, deadline and application address. The Commission says clearly that it does not recruit for all federal institutions or sell jobs.
Where to start
Before you apply, make a small evidence checklist: the official advert URL; the institution's name; the exact role and reference; qualifications and registration requirements; closing date and time; required documents; and the official submission route. Do not assume that “ongoing” on a listing page overrides the deadline printed inside the full notice. If a notice has expired, wait for a new one instead of paying an intermediary who claims to reopen it.
The UN is a separate employer with its own process. The UN Careers how-to-apply page explains how to select an opening and apply from its job description. Check whether the post is in Nigeria and whether it is a local or international category; eligibility, language and experience requirements differ. UN agencies, funds and programmes may use their own official websites, as the UN's career overview notes.
Prepare once, tailor each time
Keep a master record of your education, work dates, licences and references. Then answer the questions in the actual vacancy rather than sending a generic claim that you are “suitable.” For competency questions, describe a real situation, what you did and the result. Review your entries before submitting; incomplete or inconsistent dates can be more damaging than a short CV.
The UN warns that it does not request payment at any stage. No outside agent can promise a government shortlist or a UN interview. Verify messages through the official portal before sharing documents or money.
