How to Find Jobs in Abuja Without Paying to Apply
A practical way to find real Abuja vacancies, verify the employer and avoid recruitment fees.

Abuja has employers in government, education, health, professional services and the private sector. A useful job search begins with the organisation that will actually employ you. Open its careers page, note the exact job title and closing date, and apply through the route in its own notice. Save the advert URL and a copy of what you submitted. If a social post names a vacancy but gives no employer or official application route, treat it as a lead to investigate, not as an application instruction.
Where to start
The federal LEEP Jobs portal can help you discover opportunities, but its adverts include third-party employers. Check the employer behind each role before sending documents. The Federal Character Commission's job listings may point to federal institution notices; the Commission itself explains that it does not recruit or sell government jobs. Follow the specific ministry, university or hospital's instructions rather than a person promising a shortcut.
A 15-minute verification routine
- Search the employer's own domain for the title or advert reference.
- Compare location, duties, qualifications and deadline with the message you received.
- Check the application address carefully. A lookalike domain or a personal messaging account is not the employer's careers portal.
- Confirm whether the role is open to external applicants. Some notices are internal or restricted by profession.
- Keep your CV and certificates ready, but send identity documents only through the verified application route and only when requested.
Never pay someone to “reserve” an interview or guarantee selection. The ILO's fair recruitment principles say workers and jobseekers should not bear recruitment fees. That is a strong warning sign; the terms of a particular Nigerian recruitment process should still be read on the employer's official notice. A good weekly routine is to shortlist a few suitable roles, tailor each application and record the result, rather than send the same CV to every advert.
